Details on Skopelos Town

The picturesque Skopelos Town has been designated as a heritage settlement, a Traditional Settlement of Outstanding Beauty by Presidential Decree in 1978.  All building must retain the old style according to strict building regulations. Even for businesses, neon or luminous signs are banned giving way to beautiful hand-painted signs shop signs on wood adding to the traditional charm.

Skopelos Town clings to the low hills that rise up from the water. This is a spectacular bay – always busy with plenty of activity. Inter-island ferries, day-trip cruisers, hydrofoils, private yachts, fishing and excursion boats are in and out all day offering plenty to see. It a perfect picture of white facades, roofs of terracotta tiles, blue shutters, verdant foliage and grey flagstones all clustered around a perfect amphitheatrical harbour.

Labyrinth- like alleys meander to the top of the hill where the Venetian castle sits. The alleys are awash with flower gardens and small colourful wooden balconies. The port at the foot of the town, is where most of the activities take place during the summer, you will find plenty of restaurants, shops, cafes, sheltered by huge plane and mulberry trees, or bustling bars with loud music and several accommodations.
